I've been here a couple of times, I think once was for Sunday Brunch and the other time was a week day happy hour. To be honest, I don't remember the food or service being memorable, and I do remember thinking it was overpriced, but the views.... perfect place to get some open air and see beautiful ocean views and the sunset!

I like this place. Simple, honest, and hard working staff all seemingly have fun. Location: Can't get much better for a casual spot, outdoor seating, with good drinks and fun. Menu: great choices, lots of them. American beach food not on your Weight Watcher points thing, you'd need an abacuses to add up all these points. They also have salads and other unfun food options, hey it's Cali. Food: It was really good. Service: Excellent for a busy day; drink order in right away, drinks came quickly, food order in, and like magic our next drink order was in and our food showed up. Seems like they are well practiced at this. Price: Super reasonable including the drinks.

Ma'Kai was better than I expected! I don't really know why they have mediocre reviews. During the day, this seems like a cute spot for happy hour, especially out on the patio where you've got views of the ocean. At night, I've walked by here and it seems to take on a younger, boozy, nightclub-esque environment with a DJ. This is about after 10pm. They have plenty of TV's, so also seems like a good choice to watch sports at. We ate on the patio, which is where I'd prefer to be by far, but the interior is open and airy. When you walk by, I see where it looks a little grungier and not as appealing. The menu isn't 'wowing'... pretty standard items. I was definitely impressed with the food, however! We came here on a Saturday afternoon, maybe around 3 or 4pm. It wasn't too crowded and we were promptly seated in their outdoor seating area. Our waitress was super attentive and friendly. She helped us decide on our drinks and food (we were very indecisive), and came back just the appropriate number of times to check for drink refills. We all had vodka soda's and the pour was decent. The calamari and wings were all up to my standards! Everything came out within about 10 minutes of ordering. The calamari was crispy and the wings were juicy, tender, and plenty of sauce on them. I'll have to come back here during the evening to see what that situation is like. Honestly, the views alone and the location you just can't beat.

My husband and I were in the area and wanted to eat somewhere we've never been to. Lucky for us we found this great spot as we were walking towards Santa Monica Pier. This place is totally beach trendy with lots of patio seating for you to enjoy the ocean view. They have a great happy hour menu which we ordered from. My husband had the Ma'Kai burger which he really enjoyed and I had to try their fish and chips which did not disappoint! And their draft beer was perfect with our meals not to mention the warm weather. Service was a bit slow but we still left very satisfied. Also, you never know which celebrity you might see here chillin at the patio...we sure did

This place has hands down the best fries I've ever tried in my life. This is the second time me and my boyfriend have stopped by just to grab a cocktail and a side of fries. The fries are crisp to perfection with the perfect amount of seasoning on them and just all around, amazing! They also gave us a new "ranch" inspired sauce to try with them that they said they just started testing out yesterday. Lucky us!! Because it was incredible as well! Would recommend this place. The prices are pretty average for the location of this place. Beautiful views if you sit outside as well.
